Already Home 03:05
Feet hit the ground, she kissed my cheek And said I love you baby Upon the street, she grabbed my hip Her heart, I say, she gave me She smiled sweet and whispered soft Into my open ear I nearly wept, her words so warm Said this will be our year Agnes, hold soft and clear Shine your love, lift fog of fear Blanket of snow clung to the ground So white and bright and blinding Walked to the river where the water's Holy, frozen, winding She took my hat and pursed her lips Said I'll care for you darlin' And if the sun don't rise Well, I'll shine for you in the mornin' Agnes, hold soft and clear Shine your love, lift fog of fear And if the sun don't rise at mornin' Shine for me beloved darlin' When I awoke she held me close And said I'll never let go She smiled sweet, I realized That I was already home And as it rose the sun it smiled For we were young and hungry I prayed to summer for to thank her For the love she gave me

She said if you don't know Well, that's alright I do All my loving I'm gonna Give to you And if the sun don't come out in the mornin' I'll shine for you Yeah, if the sun don't come out in the mornin' I'll shine for you, baby, I'll shine for you She said my Jackie Boy Ever you're gone You drink your whiskey When your day is done And if the sun don't come out in the mornin' I'll shine for you Yeah, if the sun don't come out in the mornin' I'll shine for you, baby, I'll shine for you

Hold on Me 01:54
When I was born I was striking steel Fire in the gutter and dogs at my heels The sky cried, but I smiled away Grab a hold on my, grab a hold on me And baby, we'll set free I saw you dancing with the messenger's son I fell to ashes baby, you were the one You say you found me, and I smile away You grab a hold on me, you grab a hold on me Baby, we'll set free With the trade winds, we'll fly on I'll be the wings and baby, you be the sun You'll hold me, and I'll smile away Grab a hold on me, grab a hold on me And baby, we'll set free

Dear Heart 02:46
You came to my door In form of a dove You cried on my floor I gave you no love But oh, my dear heart Don't cry for me I won't die For thee You rode off in white Stolen heart in hand On blizzardy night You loved the man But oh, my dear heart I wait to see The cold night Of thee I found you down In unbound, snow-clouded dream You tried to flee You flashed your teeth at me Malevolent thought An absentee heart I thrashed and I fought The pain in the dark But oh, Gypsy Heart Come home in me I will die With thee

Northwoods 04:20
A Greyhound Bus To the Great Northwoods Of Michigan At a BP Stop On a long stretched road She loved him again He pulled his hat Over his eyes A choked throat to say I'll see you light In the city sky If I go back that way In a cool deep lake With his mind still tied Jack he did think If I had that love And the pretty one I'd surely sink He dove down deep Where the water's cold There he found her heart But mistook here eyes For the sudden rise Of the cold and dark Oh, heart wept for time gone He cried, oh, you got your love wrong Jack he let fly A heaving sigh Half his teeth hid Birthed a dream From the milk and cream Of a midwest kid A rose in hand And a golden band Around a skinny wrist Diamond eyed At the womanside All the things he'd miss Oh, heart wept for time gone He cried oh, you got your love wrong

Cannot Hold 04:32
Lord, get thee to a nunnery Oh, feel your love I cannot hold Things I wanna say But the words that I play with They've all grown so cold By the banks and dressed in flowers Your heart so young and tenderly Said baby, I could hold you Lord, I could shine for you So young and free In crowded towns, I tried to love you Oh, feel your love I cannot hold The streets and the light dear Became my nightmare In love, I grew cold And as we slept my heart grew heavy The things I could not ever say The words that I play with The all grew sedated My heart could not stay But I'll be there Dear Agnes In the river cold Crowned in crimson roses Never to see the age of old And in the night I had decided For my own love, lord, I must flee For love and for roses I took the road Lord, set you free In lonesome seas I slew my demons Oh, feel your love revealed itself I took to the dark I removed my heart Lord, cried for help Well, I'll be there Dear Agnes In the river cold Crowned in crimson roses Never to see the age of old

Before my love, I fell to flames My lives became my ashes And all my gilded thoughts did rust I wept in my lover's lashes My best armor fled to tell me true My battles were unspoken My lover cried in sobs and sighs I lay bare and broken A demon in the paint of God I stood before unable I left my heart upon the plate At love's long banquet table For beauty I forsook my eyes They burned and cursed my body But for my love, I cast me out The light would never hold me I took to seas of solitude For my love I could not ask Redemption save for tombs and graves I unfit for the task For Cinderellas and for slaves I tried to save my Agnes But in my plight, too hard did fight Now I lay my love to rest

Damned if you do, damned if you don't She said Jackie Boy don't go But he set fire to everything she loved Damned if you do, damned if you don't Damned if you do, damned if you don't Jack, he's long lost, lying alone More lovely times than you'll ever know Damned if you do, damned if you don't It takes more than love, not to be alone Damned if you do, damned if you don't Damned if you do, damned if you don't Angry sky, land you don't know Jack his heart, frozen in stone Man made to love and be alone

For roses, I saw your eyes Red sundress and fox-mouth smile You took my hat and said Thousand Years and kissed my head Clouds, the sun did paint Glass to hide your perfect shape In rain, the night did come We to be our sacred one In health, we rushed the dune Lonely May bore Lovely June We swam from sandy beach Out to where the sky does reach You crossed to fill my glass Perfect in your every pass Clear and cool you poured Like in Eden lives before I love you in that sundress Tucked into my hollow chest Forever in our hour A thousand years kept away as ours We held our hearts to flame Melt away our frozen shame But doom, we found the way Light to lead we fools astray Gone, forever now Fell from you and casted out Loss, the hardest part But I'll keep your roses in my heart

about

Everything I love was in that sundress. Her, shining from the bus platform. Now, simply a rose tucked deep in my chest. In gutters at high noon I drew cold steel with Love, but like a fool I missed. Love never miss. Filled with lead and death I called Love by its name. Only now, Dear Agnes, and by name. Our burden is our blessing. Here, with cheekbone to temple we watch love pass. Gone and Apart. Forever, roses in our heart.
